The SonTek-SL Current Meter is a simple way to measure water velocity and level in open channels. SonTek-SL has earned acceptance worldwide as a long-term monitoring solution for these applications. The Current Meter is designed specifically for side mounting on bridges, canal walls, or riverbanks as the SL’s sleek profile makes housing easier.


The reliable classic SL500 current meter delivers data mid-channel even when it is mounted to a pier or shoreside for quick access and maintenance, without the user of divers or boats. It is lightweight and easy to mount compared to other systems and delivers horizontal ranges of up to 140m (400ft). It is ideal for:



  • Large rivers, estuaries, and large water delivery canals

  • Bridge and pier-side monitoring of tides and currents for port safety, vessel navigation, and weather stations

  • Offshore platforms
