The ProDSS Total Algae-Phycocyanin (TAL-PC) freshwater smart sensor is a dual-channel fluorescence-based sensor used for early detection of blue-green algae which can lead to harmful algal blooms. This sensor has two channels: one for phycocyanin, an accessory pigment commonly found in freshwater blue-green algae, and one for chlorophyll a, found in all algae. The Total Algae sensor is perfect for applications like beach monitoring, vertical or horizontal profiling, and source water monitoring for potentially toxic algae – especially when paired with the ProDSS multiparamter system. Built for the field, this sensor features welded titanium construction and military-specification connectors which are ideal for rugged conditions. Similar to other smart sensors, the TAL has onboard memory, processing, and allows for sensor-zeroing to be performed on-site.

The Data Management System IDS Gate is a software interface (API) that is used to integrate IDS wireless sensors to an existing network. It is suitable for the parameters pH, ORP, conductivity and dissolved oxygen of IDS wireless sensors. Using the interface, measured data and meta data are automatically transferred to a database system such as LIMS or a spreadsheet programme like Excel. The data is transferred wirelessly using a barcode reader or an IDS wireless sensor. The IDS Gate provides the data in JSON format which ensures that the data can be read easily by the machine and by those operating the laboratory. For long-term archiving, the data can be provided as PDF/A and the browser-based visualisation makes it possible for data to be displayed in real-time on networked hardware like smartphones, tablets, and monitors that are independent to the operating systems.
